NIHORT AND URUS GENETICS DISCUSSED A STRATEGIC PROPOSAL FOR INVESTMENT AND COLLABORATION ON LIVESTOCK FEED IMPROVEMENT.

The National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT), Ibadan, Oyo State and URUS Genetics visited the Institute to discuss a strategic proposal for investment and collaboration.

On April 30, 2025, representatives from URUS Genetics visited the Institute to discuss a strategic proposal for investment and collaboration. The focus was on advancing forage production, pasture development, silage, and hay production innovations to improve ruminant feed in Nigeria. Additionally, the dialogue explored enhancing NIHORT’s cattle through artificial insemination using superior genetic material from URUS. This partnership aims to leverage NIHORT’s expertise in sustainable forage technologies and URUS’s global leadership in cattle genetics to boost livestock productivity, resilience, and profitability. The collaboration aligns with both organisations’ missions to foster sustainable livestock systems, support food security, and stimulate economic growth in Nigeria’s horticultural value chain. By combining cutting-edge forage preservation techniques and advanced bovine genetics, the initiative promises to address critical challenges in cattle nutrition and breed improvement, positioning Nigeria’s livestock industry for significant transformation.
