Brief Profile

John Idam Ikoro is a plant breeder. Crops he has worked with include tomatoes, pepper, okra, and citrus. John received his MSc in Plant Breeding from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria.  His research responsibilities are his primary appointment, where he conducts research in plant breeding since joining the National Horticultural Research Institute of Nigeria (NIHORT) in 2015. His research program centres on understanding the genetics of traits of economic importance in horticultural crops, and focusing on breeding for yield improvement, drought and diseases resistance. Also, he has published several journals and conference proceedings. Furthermore, he is an executive member of the Academic Staff Union of Research Institute, and likewise Horticultural Society of Nigeria.
