Brief Profile

Dr. Olagorite Adetula attended the University of Lagos 1982-1985; University of Lagos 1986-1987 and University of Ibadan 1994-1999. Dr Adetula obtained the following academic and professional qualifications: BSc Biology (1985); MSc Biology (1987). She holds a PhD in Agronomy (Plant Breeding) from the University of Ibadan, and a Post Doctorate Research Certificate from the Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU), China.

Dr Adetula had attended over 25 short term trainings , courses and workshops in her field of specialization such as Genetics, Plant breeding, Molecular Biology, and Biodiversity in both locally and internationally, all of which have enhanced her capacity and ability to effectively conduct  research over the years. She has also received several merit awards and fellowships during the course of her career, including the Netherlands Government Fellowship (1990 and 2003), IITA Graduate Research Fellowship (1996), Rockefeller Travel Grant (2004), the HZAU China- Bioversity Post Doc Fellowship (2010) and recently African Plant Breeding Academy among several others Dr Adetula has acquired over 30 years of active and unbroken research experience in National Horticultural Research Institute, Idi Ishin, Ibadan, Nigeria, where she rose to the position of Research Director and was the Head, of Vegetable and Floriculture Department of her Institute till 2018. Her research experience had evolved over 80 Journal publications and Conference proceedings in both national and international outlets. Over 5 crop varieties had been developed and two recently released through her, while various technologies developed are currently being utilized by farmers in Nigeria. Dr Adetula is a season Scientist, a high profile Breeder and prominent Administrator.
