Dr. Abdul-Rafiu joined the Institute in January 2009 as a Research Officer I and became a Chief Research Officer in 2019. He has been the Head of Teed Technology Unit since 2017. Dr. Abdul-Rafiu is a seasoned seed scientist and his research interest include seed physiology, seed production (and Technology), seed improvement, management and conservation among others. His contribution to knowledge and development through research publications cut across many local and international Journals (more than 20) and conference proceedings (more than 15). He has worked on many horticultural crops (Amaranthus, Celosia, Corchorus, okra, pepper, turmeric, tomato, eggplant, garden egg, cucumber, watermelon, egusi melon, sour sop, Telfairia, Irvingia, pawpaw among others. He is a member of International society for Horticultural Science, Association of Seed Scientists of Nigeria, Horticultural Society of Nigeria (where he holds the post of Vegetable sector coordinator) among others. He actively participated in the varietal evaluation of tomato, sweet pepper and cabbage developed by Syngenta which were subsequently registered and released by the National Varietal Realease Committee. Dr. Abdul-Rafiu has participated in many local and international (institutional and collaborative) research trials in NIHORT. He has co-supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students. He is a reviewer of repute for many local and international journals and currently the Principal Investigator for KAFACI (Korea-Africa Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative) project on horticulture focusing on enhancement of tomato production for maximum sustainable yield.
