MISSION STATEMENT
To develop sustainable production and utilization of horticultural spice crops in order to achieve excellence in spices research as well as aromatic plants in Nigeria.
RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
The program has the mandate to conduct research into genetic improvement, production, processing, storage, utilization and marketing of spices plants of both nutritional and economic importance.
DESCRIPTION OF JOB IN THE PROGRAMME
Organizationally, NIHORT spices program is structured such that it has at the apex, the Program Director, who is the research and administrative head. The Director also has direct responsibility for overall policy and direction of the program.
The Research activities of the program are carried out under the following divisions:
- Indigenous Spices Division
- Adapted Spices Division
- Exotic Spices Division
MAJOR RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENT IN THE PROGRAMME
Research achievements as reported in NIHORT annual report include: Achievements in genetic improvement, production, processing, storage, utilization and marketing of spices crops, produce and products.
