Expanded and matured leaves of celosia (Celosia Argentea CV TLV 8) obtained from a commercial field plots of National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT), Ibadan, Nigeria were studied during 1997 to drive a predictive regression equation for an alternative use in estimating the leaf area (LA) of Celosia CV TLT8 (as oppose to the electronic Li-Cor 3000 leaf are meter that is dearth and relatively expensive in the developing countries). A rapid, inexpensive and precise method for LA determination was developed from linear measurements and leaf weights. A strong correlation existed between LA and various parameters measured LA can be precisely predicted with regression models.
