Abstract

Pot experiments were conducted at the National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT), Ibadan to study the effect of different growth of Black pepper (piper guineensis). Four treatments namely Topsoil, Topsoil + sawdust (1:1), Topsoil + Sawdust (3:1) and Topsoil + Sawdust (1:3) were laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replicates. The result shows that Topsoil + Sawdust(1:3) gave the best emergence while Topsoil + Sawdust (3:1) gave the best vegetative parameters. The study concludes that Topsoil + Sawdust in the ratio 3:1 should be used to propagate Black pepper in the nursery before transplanting to the field.
