Abstract

Rastrococcus invadens Williams has been the most important polyphagous pest of horticultural crops since 1987 in Nigeria. It originated in South-east Asia and was probably introduced on infested plant materials from neighbouring countries. The pest has been reported in all the Southern states and Middle belt zon of Nigeria. Importation and releases of Gyranuspidea tebygi Noyes started in 1989 in collaboration with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA/BCP) Cotonous. This parasitoid has now established itself in all areas infested by mango mealybug in Nigeria. In several other places where releases were not made, G. tebygi was also found to have established itself here.
