An appraisal of HORTSON proceedings over a ten-year period was carried out. Data was based on information provided by researchers during the conference. Oyo State had the highest number of participants (189) during the years under review, while other states in Nigeria were sparsely represented in technical paper presentations. Overseas countries were poorly represented with the exception of Ghana (6) participants in 2006 and (1) from USA in 2007. The use of International Standard Book Number (ISBN) which is a unique numerical book identifier to identify periodic publications like HORTSON proceedings was also examined. 1999, 2000, 2005 and 2009 proceedings had no ISBN and in the other years, the numbers were wrongly quoted. A particular part of these numbers are subjected to change on yearly bases depending on the theme of the book proceeding to be published. The modern progress in agriculture is the rapid increase in the utilization of science and the results of scientific research as a source of information and guidance in improving and perfecting agricultural methods and publicity.
