Abstract

Field survey was conducted by sampling the opinion of eighty respondents purposively drawn for four villages of Dange, Shunni Wababe and Rikina to assess the community based participatory development project in Dange-shuni local government Area of Sokoto State Nigeria. The research instrument used was open-ended questionnaire and the data collected were analysed by the use of descriptive statistical tools (such as percentage frequency and chi square) to test the relationship between the variables. The study, therefore, reveals that community members were always ready to participate in community development project through self-help efforts by engaging mostly in erosion control, drainage construction, as well as rehabilitations of road, mosque and school through personal contributions of materials, finances, moral and provision of labour. Major constraints found that affect full realization of community participation included inadequate funds and working materials as well as lack of proper supervision. The study, therefore, recommended that community members should be involved in the decision making of any development projects. Similarly adequate mobilization and sensitization should be conducted to awaken community more to facilitate their participations and achieve more success un the upliftment of their environments as well as socio-economics.
