Abstract

Field experiment was conducted during 2011 rainy season at National Horticultural Research Institute, Bagauda Kano (NIHORT) (Latitude of 11o 33N and Longitude 8o 23oE with the altitude of 481m above sea level) to determine the economic potentials of sunflower production. All agronomic practices were carried out , seeds of sunflower were planted directly in the field on 16th June 2011 on 5m by 5m2 plot size and 0.75cm by 30cm spacing replicated three times. Growth parameters were collected and recorded within three months. Three hundred (300) kg yield/ha was harvested with minimum production cost per ha at thirty-eight thousand seven hundred and twenty-five naira (N38, 725.00). However, the net return and benefit cost result ratio was obtained at eighty-three thousand, four hundred and fifty naira (N83, 450.00) that sunflower production was found profitable showing and economically viable.
