Training and empowerment of unemployed youths on Tomato and Telfaria value addition was embarked upon in order to contribute to government’s effort to improve food security and reduce unemployment by tapping into the wealth creation potentials of the selected commodities. The training covers important aspect of the commodity value chains such as nursery practices in tomato and Telfairia production practices, value addition, economics of production, marketing and significance of record keeping for good business management.

The training was held at The Training Hall of Agricultural Research and Management Training Institute (ARMTI), Liaison Office, Abuja. The programme was widely publicized through print and electronic media. Participants attested to the fact that both crops have nutritional and economic importance and increased production of these crops will provide gainful employment to the unemployed and underemployed women, men and youth in the country. Forty-seven (47) participants compromising 55% males and 45% females were trained. Immediate outcome of the training was the significant improvement in knowledge and skill of trainees on wealth creation along the value chains of tomato and telfairia.
